How to unlock fontaine commission - The main new feature is underwater exploration in Genshin Impact 4.0, which will allow players to traverse vast underwater areas with their characters. 

These portions of water will be treated much like the normal map, but will have unique exploration features, as well as puzzles and opponents. An exclusive combat mechanic is also added with version 4.0, revolving around energies called Pneuma and Ousia. However, before players experience them, they will need to unlock Fontaine.

How to unlock Fontaine as new Genshin Impact player

Although Fontaine is the fifth main region in Genshin Impact's Teyvat, after Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and Sumeru, new players will be able to explore it without having to catch up on the entire story thus far. As the developer announced during the version 4.0 live stream held on the official Genshin Impact Twitch channel, new players only need to finish the Mondstadt arc in order to access Fontaine.

Upon completing Archon Quest Prologue: Act III “Song of the Dragon and Freedom”, players will automatically unlock a Teleport Waypoint on the edge of the Kingdom of Farakkhert, on Sumeru, which borders Fontaine.

 
For reference, this is the quest that shows a lot of development involving Venti and La Signora. By teleporting to the new Waypoint and moving east, players will be able to reach Fontaine in Genshin Impact.

Players will be free to explore Fontaine, though their quest progress in the region will be locked until they complete Archon Quest "Caribert" on Sumeru.

How to Unlock Fontaine as a Veteran Genshin Impact Player

Players who have already caught up with the story and completed the Archon Quest "Caribert" in Genshin Impact will be automatically directed towards the new Archon Quest that takes place in Fontaine. 

Even if these veteran players have yet to explore the Kingdom of Farakhkert on Sumeru, they will also have the new Teleport Waypoint unlocked. This will make it easier to reach the Hydro Nation and quickly start the story in the region.

Of course, players are not required to follow the quests immediately and, like new players, they will be free to explore the region at their own pace. The advantage they have, however, is being able to start the regional Archon Quests at any time, considering that «Caribert» has concluded. Genshin Impact 4.0 and the Fontaine region are coming to all platforms the game is available on on August 16.
