Weapons in Elden Ring require certain levels of stats for players to use them effectively. If players do not meet the equipment requirements, they will not be able to perform the special skill for their respective weapon.

Elden Ring features several new weapon categories in addition to some recurring weapons from previous Souls games. The ways players can upgrade their weapons include the new Ashes of War, which provides special power-ups, skills and more.

The first thing to know about upgrading weapons in Elden Ring is the supplies it will need. Players will need to collect copious amounts of Rune and Iron Stone Shards to use for weapon upgrades.

Runes and Smithing Stone Shards can be mined from Troll enemies in Stormhill and from the Limgrave Tunnels. After collecting enough supplies, go to Elleh Church and access the Smithing Table.

When upgrading a weapon, levels increase in increments of +1, which increases the weapon's damage and sometimes overall Scaling. Ashes of War will also be used to provide alternative skills and stats.

Each of the weapons in Elden Ring comes with a specific skill that can be accomplished by pressing the (L2/LT) key. Most of the weapons in Elden Ring can be replaced by using Ashes of War, which has its own abilities.
